This is the tale of a broken girl
And how she came to be
Her head was doused in ringlet curls
And a heart bursting at the seems

She was raised in a house of boys
With secrets she’d never tell
It was always filled with senseless noise
Still it was quite well

Her mother had abandoned her
And given her up for drugs
She loved the methamphetamine
And she learned to never trust

She ended up finally living
With her three brothers
Her step mother and her dad
But never just her mother

In her simple childhood days
They’d ride bikes as in a match
They’d chase after different bugs
And all the butterflies they could catch

These days were the best memories
That she’s ever known
They were simple yet so sweet
But soon she’d be alone

When the snow covered the dirty ground
It brought with it a change
Something that she found
Would never go away

A divorce they had announced
But still it was much more
Her step mom took all she knew
And simply closed the door

All she had was her knight
Better known as her dad
She’d soon discover a different side
A monster just too bad

The days to come held lots of tears
And pain just as well
Her life was filled with countless fears
And more secrets she couldn’t tell

Her dad became a demon in her mind
He’d abuse her with his blows
She needed an escape she couldn’t find
So still the monster had arose

Each time it would get worse towards her
Until she no longer felt the hits
It had become something so much worse
It was a sexual abyss

Night after night it would be torture
She’d beg him to please stop
He would just never listen to her
And so her innocence dropped

Then one day she found a skill
Or rather a demand
To escape the constant torture
She held it in her hand

It was a single razor
Shining in the light
She’d hold it to her wrist
Each and every night

It would drown out all the voices
Screaming in her head
Telling her to just get out
Before she wound up dead

Watching all the blood
Slowly roll down her wrist
Filled some kind of void
But still she clenched her fist

Two years she was trapped in this hell
Guarded by a dark king
Where the sound of deaths bells
Encouraged her to sing

Her father always told her
That she brought it on herself
That everything that happened
Was in and of itself

One day she couldn’t take it
And finally she snapped
She held the razor one last time
She was no longer trapped

But there was another plan for her
She couldn’t take her life
Instead she ended up back again
Even after a second time

Her brother was the first to save her
And then her best friend
Both times her death was failed
Her existence couldn’t end

She turned her eyes to a different road
Music was her new escape
She had been playing violin for years now
So soon she began to shape

Another talent she had found
Also in the arts
This time it was on paper
She had a change of hearts

She’d poor herself into pencil drawings
Always back and white
It soon became her passion
Once more she saw a light

It still couldn’t quite cover
The dark cave she was locked in
Never feeling the suns warm rays
Only knowing constant sin

Her art was not enough
And soon she turned her head again
To another solution
And soon she found a friend

Most have heard of this silent killer
And most even know its name
Her new friend was Methamphetamine
She was captured by its game

She flew in a downward spiral
Even though she was so high
Her head was always spinning
Lost somewhere in the sky

She sunk into addiction
Until she hit the floor
She passed out for two days
And when she woke, she needed more

The pain of the withdraws
Was too much for her to take
Meth had tied an anchor to her
Pulling her beneath its wake

The harder she’d try to pull away
The further down she’d sink
She began to suffocate
And fall off her feet

When she finally found the will to stop
Realizing it made hell even worse
She told her friend she’d have to leave
And they no longer could converse

Her friend didn’t like that
So he put her though a week of pain
She’d lay curled on her bed
Praying for a better day

Finally her strength returned
And she was back in reality
She realized she’d be trapped forever
It was her destiny

One summer day she woke
When the sun was shining bright
She left the monsters layer
And was shown a new sight

She stayed with her mother
For two weeks in another state
She realized something new
She could wipe clean her dirty slate

After those two weeks
She had returned back to her dad
But nothing had changed
And he was awful mad

He raised his hand in front of her
As if to strike her face
She shied down before him
And prepared herself to brace

After the first blow to her
He pushed her to the bed
She cried as she tried to focus
On butterflies instead

She couldn’t take the suffering
So she made a desperate plea
She called out for help
She was given a new key

Her grandmother came to get her
Rescuing her from her cell
Never once did she look back
At that awful hell

She was sent back to her mothers
And everything was good
She bonded with her step dad
Not questioning that she should

Only now was she in high school
But she still could not let go
Of the horrors she’d endured
But little did she know

The year went on as always
Not once did she speak to her dad
She decided to press charges
Any way she can

The detectives came to her school
And took her to a place
To talk to an older women
Who had a pretty face

She asked her simple questions
Then harder ones as they went on
She asked her to give details
Ones she’d rather keep gone

She cried more than she thought she would
The tears streamed down her cheek
Finally it was over
But she still felt like a freak

One of the young detectives
Finally came up to her
He told her it was okay
And “he couldn’t hurt her anymore”

She felt with those five words
A huge burden off her back
She smiled and then thanked him
But confidence she lacked

She finished out the school year
Far from top of her class
Then the summer started
And she began a new task

She proceeded to advance her art
Winning some awards
She then went back to her hometown
To secure some old boards

Her visit however
Didn’t end like she had planned
She ended up leaving early
Because of the murder of a man

She was woken up early morning
By her grandma on her bed
She brought to her horrible news
She’d rather have ignored instead

Her step dad had been stabbed to death
Under the roof of their own home
None of it made sense to her
And her head started to roam

That night they flew to where it was
The dark sky engulfed her whole
She saw her mother on the sidewalk
Underneath a simple pole

She approached her mother slowly
But her heart was filled with dread
She was informed on who did it
It was one of his new “friends”

Her mind still couldn’t grasp the concept
Of what had come to be
With bloodshot eyes she turned to her mother
And asked if she could see

She went into the apartment
But the lights were all turned down
When she could finally see it
She couldn’t believe what she had found

There was no body thankfully
But still it was a mess
There was blood all over the kitchen
Amounts no body could possess

The place she had made memories in
Now only had one more
She cried and would have rather
Left this one behind the door

In the month that followed
They went from place to place
First to an abuse shelter
Where she’d always hide her face

After a week of being there
They’d be sleeping on the floor
Her mom would have none of it
So they went out to find more

They ended up back at their house
The blood had all been cleaned
The kitchen became a reminder
Of everything she’d seen

She’d often have nightmares
Of her step father’s death
He’d visit her in her dreams
She’d often lose her breath

He’d tell her that he’s proud of her
And that he’s sorry he couldn’t stay
But not to lose hope
And start to waste away

The funeral was held
In a place she couldn’t go
She never got to say goodbye
Even after he watched her grow

Finally they moved away
From all the memories they had
They said their last goodbyes
Often feeling sad

This story isn’t over
She’s still living day by day
She’ll try and make the best of it
Because she promised not to waste away

This fifteen year old girl
Has been to hell and back
One day she’ll finally know
How to not expect attack

Now this young girl
Is very close to my heart
I see her every day
In my life she’s always part

The reason that this is
In case you couldn’t see
The reason she’s not ordinary
Is because she’s simply me
